Adolescent co-occurring staff works closely with local schools in coordinating and scheduling services to minimize interruption of education to combat substance abuse in teens.
The Co-occurring Intensive Outpatient Program at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital provides a confidential, highly structured, intensive intermediate level of care between inpatient and outpatient programs for adolescents and their families. The substance abuse treatment philosophy of the Co-Occurring Program is to develop individual treatment plans for each member, treating mental health and substance abuse issues simultaneously.
The focus of the teen substance abuse program is group therapy utilizing a variety of treatment techniques including motivational enhancement, stages of change, drug screening, relapse prevention, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Substance abuse rehab program operates three times per week for three hours per treatment day. In addition to intensive outpatient programming, the adolescent and ten substance abuse service also has an aftercare component. Once an adolescent has successfully completed intensive outpatient they can continue their teen substance abuse treatment and rehab in a weekly aftercare group to support relapse prevention and continue to develop skills to help manage and decrease symptoms.
Goals of Substance Abuse Treatment in Teens
The Co-Occurring Intensive Outpatient Programs assists adults, adolescents and their families achieve many objectives during substance abuse treatment which include:
- Assist to decrease substance abuse and presenting psychiatric, behavioral, and emotional symptoms.
- Assist program members in developing successful coping and stress management skills
- Provide medication management as warranted
- Help program members in recognizing and communicating feelings in constructive and recovery focused ways
