Sleep Studies
If you think you have a sleep disorder, contact your physician for a non-invasive, painless evaluation called a polysomnogram, or sleep study at our sleep center. A sleep study is a diagnostic medical procedure and is covered by most insurance companies when ordered by a physician.
Upon arrival at our Sleep Center for a study, patients are greeted by a sleep expert or sleep apnea specialist and assigned a private, comfortable, hotel-like room with a full size bed and cable TV. Restroom accessibility for people with disabilities is also available. In order to obtain a sleep study at our sleep clinic, patients should first be evaluated by their primary care physician. A doctor’s referral also required and most health insurance plans including Medicare cover sleep studies, which are recognized as standard medical diagnostic procedures.
During a sleep study at our sleep hospital, after you fall asleep, a state-of-the-art computerized equipment will record your body’s sleep patterns through brain wave activity, respiratory flow and rate, heart rhythm, eye movements, chest motion, limb movements and the amount of oxygen in your blood. After your sleep clinic study is complete, your referring physician will receive a report of the results of your sleep study including your treatment options. The Hungerford Sleep Laboratory utilizes the Alice® 5 Sleep Diagnostic System which continues to gain worldwide recognition for its advanced sleep analysis capabilities. Alice 5 helps to facilitate a more efficient process for sleep lab technicians and generates more comprehensive data for the diagnosis of disorders.
