The Foster Care Clinic of Northwestern Connecticut is a collaborative program between the Center for Youth and Families of The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and Education in Connection.
The foster care clinic provides thorough medical and behavioral health screenings for all children placed into foster care in Torrington, Connecticut within the first 30 days of placement. It’s mission as a foster care clinic is to service foster families within northwestern Connecticut with dignity and respect, and identify potential medical and mental health concerns and offer appropriate recommendations to best meet the foster child’s needs in a timely fashion during treatment.
Why is early assessment and intervention important?
Many children enter the foster care system due to issues related to neglect and abuse. Often, their basic medical and emotional needs have not been met within their birth families. Addressing these needs with our foster care services in a timely fashion will help children in foster care feel better, understand that adults are there to help them, trust that their foster families will meet their medical and emotional needs, and experience an enhanced quality of life.
