Pre-Hospital EMS

The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Department of Emergency Medicine, Division of EMS provides medical authorization, oversight and continuing education for area pre-hospital providers.

The Division additionally functions to support EMS providers in their roles and to improve the transition of care between prehospital and in-hospital providers.

Our Team

Sean Caffyn, DO, EMT-P

EMS Medical Director 

Hailing from central Connecticut, Dr. Caffyn started his journey as an EMT for his hometown volunteer fire department in 1994. Over the years he progressed to EMT Intermediate and then Paramedic, working for several commercial and hospital-based systems, earning a bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology at CCSU along the way.  Shortly after graduating, Dr. Caffyn enlisted in the Army National Guard, undergoing training to be a combat medic as well as an infantryman, with deployments to Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. After returning from Afghanistan he was accepted to medical school at The University of New England College of Osteopathic medicine, graduating in 2016. From there he was accepted to UConn Emergency Medicine Residency program, which was the stepping stone to EMS fellowship at UMass Medical Center.  Sean’s medical interests include Mobile Integrated Health as well as tactical medicine, and his personal interests include triathlon, hiking, and spending time with his wife and three children. 

Trisha Wain, MS, NRP, EMS-I

EMS Coordinator

Trish began her EMS career in 2009, working for a variety of volunteer and municipal EMS agencies. After completing undergraduate studies, Trish attended Capital Community College’s paramedic program and graduated in February 2013. Before coming to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in 2019, Trish worked as a 911, intercept, and critical care transport paramedic in both commercial and hospital-based EMS systems. Outside of EMS, Trish serves as an associate professor of Biology & Health Sciences and is currently completing her MPA in Emergency Management.
