Charlotte Hungerford’s breast cancer institute provides full digital mammography and Stereotactic Breast Biopsy Services at two convenient locations in Torrington and Winsted.
Digital Mammography – Provides physicians with clearer images on a computer monitor and alter their size, brightness, and color. Pre-menopausal women ages 40 to 50 and those with dense breasts are most likely to benefit.

Our nurse navigator works with a team of medical specialists and cancer care staff members at our breast cancer institute to ensure that women are fully supported if they need assistance related to breast cancer education and treatment.
Advanced Screenings at our breast cancer hospital:
Breast Biopsies – Removes all or part of the abnormal tissue so it may be sent to a laboratory for pathological examination.
Breast Ultrasound – Uses sound waves to produce images of the tissue inside the breast. This test can provide an additional imaging benefit for women with dense breast tissue and also for women with specific breast conditions.
Breast MRI – Uses magnetic resonance imaging to produce images of the tissue inside the breast. This test can provide an additional imaging benefit to women with specific breast conditions.
