Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and its Behavioral Health Services Department is accredited by The Joint Commission through 2022.
Charlotte Hungerford Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s three-year accreditation Gold Seal of Approval™ by demonstrating compliance with national standards for healthcare quality and safety in hospitals. The standards are developed in consultation with health care experts, providers, measurement experts and patients.
Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission seeks to continuously improve healthcare for the public, in collaboration with other stakeholders, by evaluating healthcare organizations and inspiring them to excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value. CHH underwent a rigorous unannounced onsite survey in September 2019.
A team of Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated CHH for compliance with almost 600 standards of care and the following national patient safety goals:
- Accurate, timely reconciliation of all our patient’s medications
- Prevention of patient falls
- Prevention of hospital associated wounds or pressure ulcers
- Identification and care of “high risk” patients and care
- Accurate identification of all patients at all times
- Making sure that communication among hospital staff, medical staff, and our patients and families is timely, technically accurate, and respectful
- Making sure that tour infection rate is as close to “zero” as humanly possible.

Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA). Since 1847 the American Medical Association (AMA) has had one mission: to promote the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health. Today, the core strategy used to carry out this mission is our concerted effort to help doctors help patients. We do this by uniting physicians nationwide to work on the most important professional and public health issues
The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital makes referrals to tertiary health care providers for patients requiring advanced clinical care including Hartford Hospital, Children’s Medical Center, and Yale New Haven Hospital.
