Charlotte Hungerford’s New Medical Record System to Improve Patient Care
September 24, 2019
Charlotte Hungerford Hospital of Torrington will convert its current electronic health medical record system Oct. 1 to new Epic software that will improve the way the hospital delivers care by storing patient records in a single place.
When fully implemented, this new electronic health record system will put everyone on the care team on the same page, including the patient, providers and specialists who will be instantly able to see health records, latest test results and other critical data. The new system means providers will have quick and ready access to medical records wherever a patient receives care. This enables caregivers to coordinate care more easily, too. A single record prevents duplicate testing and enables better and safer management of patient medications.
“Moving to this new electronic medical record system has been a significant and complex job of installation, training, and process improvement for our staff and we have worked very hard to put the system in place,” said Dan McIntyre, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital president and a Hartford HealthCare senior vice president. “Please know that at all times patients remain our No. 1 priority. This is more than just a major investment by Hartford HealthCare in technology at our hospital, but in the entire healthcare landscape in the northwest region. We’re working every day to ensure that our services and providers are more integrated and accessible.”
Charlotte Hungerford staff have undergone months of specialized training to prepare for the transition and will have many colleagues from within the Hartford HealthCare system on hand before, during, and after Oct. 1 to ensure a smooth transition.
In the beginning of the conversion in mid-September through mid-October, patients at the hospital and offsite medical practices may experience slight delays in processing information. “We are very excited to bring this incredible new technology to the caregivers and medical staff at CHH. During this transition, we ask for your patience as your caregivers become more familiar with our new system. Please know you will receive the same high quality care you expect from us.” said Candace Carlson, Charlotte Hungerfords Director of IT.
