‘Knowing Your Breast Cancer Risk’ Dinner-With-the-Doc Talk Nov. 7

Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and the Hartford Health Cancer Institute presents a health talk entitled “Knowing Your Breast Cancer Risk” Dr. Kimberly Caprio, a breast surgeon, Nov. 7 at the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Memorial Conference Hall.
In this free educational seminar, learn more about understanding breast cancer risk assessments, interpreting “high” risk factors, what to expect and what steps to take. There are many medical and lifestyle factors used in determining a woman’s risk for breast cancer. Some of these include family history, genetics, breast density, age, weight, ethnicity and the timing of childbearing and menopause.
The talk is from 5:30 to 7 pm. The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Memorial Conference Hall is at 540 Litchfield Street in Torrington. A light dinner will be provided prior to the presentation with a question and answer session to follow.
Dr. Caprio, part of the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute, guides the development of the breast surgery program in Hartford HealthCare’s Northwest Region and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She is currently seeing patients in Torrington at 220 Kennedy Drive and in Enfield.
For the past six years, Dr. Caprio has served as Director of the Hoffman Breast Health Center at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford and is currently assistant professor in Department of Surgery at Quinnipiac University as well as assistant clinical professor in the department of surgery at the UConn School of Medicine.
Dr. Caprio, a graduate of Boston College and New Jersey Medical School, and completed her residency at New Jersey Medical School’s Department of Surgery, where she later served as administrative chief resident. Dr. Caprio completed her interdisciplinary breast surgery fellowship at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven.
She is also a retired Navy lieutenant commander.
Dr. Caprio is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
