CHH Auxiliary December Artist of the Month Now Showing
December 09, 2019
The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Auxiliary is featuring the artwork of Deborah Sacks now through early January 2020 in the hospital’s main lobby hallway at 540 Litchfield Street in Torrington.
The public is invited to view and buy the works during regular visiting hours as part of the Auxiliary’s ongoing “Artist of the Month” program. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the artwork support the CHH Auxiliary and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
Deborah Sacks has been an art student, artist and art teacher all her adult life. She completed a B.F.A. from Rhode Island School of Design, an M.A. from Towson State University and an M.A.L.S. from Wesleyan University. Deborah received further training through coursework and workshops at Trinity College and Hartford Art School.
Having much experience with diverse media materials, Deborah came to concentrate primarily on printmaking. Her current work builds upon years of intaglio and relief printing from metal, wood and linoleum plates. Switching to more environmentally friendly techniques, she uses solar plates and water base inks to produce results comparable to acid etching. Deborah also combines her original paintings, drawings, etchings and photographs within a digital print. The prints are on archival paper to which she often applies further enhancement with pastel or paint.
Deborah divides her time between Avon and her second residence in Chelsea, Vt. She has retired from a long career teaching art in Connecticut public schools. She gives private lessons to junior high and high school students, as well as to adults.
Her award-winning prints have appeared in juried exhibitions at Gallery on the Green in Canton; Farmington Valley Art Center in Avon; Slater Museum of the Norwich Free Academy; West Hartford Art League; New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester, N.H.; Wesleyan Potters in Middletown; Loading Dock Gallery in Lowell, Mass.; and the 6th Biennial International Exhibition, Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk.
The Auxiliary’s Artist of the Month program has been featuring paintings, photographs, and artwork each month from local artists for over 25 years. Their over 200 member supporters assist in raising money for the hospital through dues, donations, volunteering at the gift shop and a variety of events including an annual fashion show.
