CHH Auxiliary February Artist of the Month Now Showing
April 07, 2021
The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) Auxiliary is featuring the artwork of David Roelofs through early May in the hospital’s main lobby hallway, 540 Litchfield Street, Torrington.
Visitors are invited to view and buy the works during regular visiting hours as part of the Auxiliary’s Artist of the Month program. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the artwork support the CHH Auxiliary and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Health screenings are required for all visitors entering the Hospital at this time.
David Roelofs describes himself as one of the “lucky ones” who was born with artistic talent, but did not pursue a career in art until his “autumn years.” When faced with physical limitations that prevented him from working a conventional job, David returned to his art with reignited fervor. He typically works well into the early hours of the morning on his pieces.
Though David works primarily with airbrush, graphite, pyrography and pen and ink, he sometimes uses colored pencils, pastels and watercolors. He also creates art through carving and engraving, and makes all his frames from scratch.
“I’m a stickler for detail and this is evident in all of my work. I try for photo-realism if at all possible within the medium that I am using. I share my work on social media and have received numerous comments on the quality of my work,” he says.
The Auxiliary’s Artist of the Month program has featured paintings, photographs, and artwork each month from local artists for over 25 years. The Auxiliary’s 200-plus member supporters assist in raising money for the hospital through dues, donations, volunteering at the gift shop, and a variety of events including an annual fashion show.
