CHH Auxiliary November Artist of the Month Now Showing
November 15, 2021
The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) Auxiliary is featuring the artwork of Claudia Rahm now through early December in the hospital’s main lobby hallway, 540 Litchfield St., Torrington. The public is invited to view and buy the works during regular visiting hours as part of the Auxiliary’s ongoing “Artist of the Month” program. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the artwork support the CHH Auxiliary and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
The Auxiliary’s “Artist of the Month” program has been featuring paintings, photographs, and artwork each month from local artists for over 25 years. Their over-200 member supporters assist in raising money for the hospital through dues, donations, volunteering at the gift shop, and a variety of events including an annual fashion show.
After many years devoted to working and raising her family in Warren, Claudia Rahm resumed painting in 2010. Her lack of formal training has made way for her interest in design and color rather than optical realism. She has created an unpretentious approach to making art her own way.
Claudia is inspired by the freedom and fun with which children make artistic choices. This passion has influenced her artistic style, which ranges from bold abstracts to whimsical scenes that burst with detail and story. Rahm’s art emerges from the pages of her sketchbooks as well as her childlike imagination. Her love for the ocean, the countryside and the Bible leads her often to paint in layers of meaning. Her mixed media works and contemporary primitives joyously celebrate her love of color, design and nature, as well as her faith.
Claudia has shown and sold her art in Litchfield County and along the Connecticut shoreline, as well as in Western Massachusetts and Maine. This is her third exhibit at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
The Charlotte Hospital Auxiliary consists of 200 members and 25 board members. These special people give their support and time throughout the year by raising money through the operation of the CHH gift shop, membership dues, special vendor sales, an annual fashion show, the Artist of the Month Program and a holiday season’s greeting promotion. The Auxiliary supports many functions including donations to the hospital’s annual women’s heart health program, and volunteer tea, cancer fundraisers and capital campaigns.
In addition, the Auxiliary awards annual $1,000 healthcare scholarships, including the Dr. Alfred Febro Scholarship and one in memory of Joseph Curi, M.D. If you are interested in joining the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Auxiliary, call 860.489.5039.
