Lab Settles Into New Home at CHH
May 02, 2025
After more than a year of construction, the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital laboratory moved into a newly renovated space on level 2 of the Turner Coe Building. The work is part of an ongoing facilities project for the lab and pharmacy departments.
The lab work was tackled in five phases, allowing operations to continue without interruption. The redesigned space improves workflow efficiency by locating key lab disciplines closer together to maximize performance in a smaller area.
Construction begins on the hospital’s new pharmacy space next, work that should be finished by the end of 2025. The laboratory is a full-service 24/7 operation providing such services as: anatomic pathology, blood bank, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis and phlebotomy. Its team of phlebotomists, laboratory assistants, medical laboratory scientists/technicians, point of care coordinator, pathologist and administrators perform more than 300,000 billable tests annually.
“The new space is symbolic of a bright future for our laboratory. It is a new beginning in a beautiful space where our amazing team will be able to continue our mission of providing the very best laboratory services and further serve the hospital and Northwest community as a whole,” said Eric Orelup, director of laboratory services.
