CHH Respiratory Care Department provides 24 hour clinical support to the hospital’s pulmonary medicine medical staff and offers a wide range of conventional and advanced services by pulmonary specialists to patients with breathing difficulties.
The pulmonary care department is staffed by CTS licensed respiratory therapists who are essential members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team and work in collaboration with the physicians and nurses to provide compassionate, high-quality, in-patient and out-patient care to all areas of the pulmonary care hospital.
The pulmonary care hospital is a recipient of the ‘Quality Respiratory Care Recognition’ seal awarded to it by the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC), the professional organization of respiratory therapists. The pulmonary care hospital has received this honor for “superior provision of service” to patients receiving respiratory care services.
CHH Pulmonary Functions Laboratory offers a wide range of pulmonary function testing (lung function) to assist pulmonary medicine physicians in diagnosing and managing patients with breathing problems and/or lung disease. Pulmonary function tests help measure the different aspects of lung function and can help determine the cause of shortness of breath and may help confirm lung diseases such as asthma, bronchitis or emphysema.
CHH Blood Gas Laboratory is operated under the Respiratory Care Department. It is accredited by the Joint Commission and meets all Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) requirements.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation
CHH Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs use a team approach and provide individualized pulmonary care programs for exercise prescriptions, educational classes and support services. Sessions are twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays for one hour, for a total of thirty-six sessions. During the sessions pulmonary care patients can expect information on basic lung anatomy and function, symptom management, proper breathing techniques, diet recommendations, disease descriptions, medications, relaxation techniques and exercise therapy. Participation in the pulmonary medicine program is based on physician referral.
The Better Breathing Club is a free support group offered through the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
