The CHH Emergency Services Department offers immediate emergency service care and treatment to people of all ages for any medical, surgical, or psychiatric need that may arise. Emergency services are provided by a team of board-certified physicians, physician assistants, and nurses who utilize state-of-the-art technology to ensure patients have access to quality care on a timely basis. Patient Relations representatives are also available for those with special needs. LIFE STAR helicopter service is available when medically necessary.
FastTrack Service
Patients with non life threatening injuries and illnesses may now utilize an emergency service called Fast Track Service adjacent to the critical care area. It features a separate, five-bed area and waiting room staffed by an emergency physician and nurses. Fast Track allows medical professionals to handle minor emergencies more quickly and reduce waiting and turn-around times for patients.
Crisis Intervention Services
Located in our Emergency Department, our team of crisis intervention service workers deliver immediate care to adults, adolescents and children experiencing an acute psychiatric emergency 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A psychiatrist is on call at all times for staff consult. This unit offers crisis intervention, evaluation and assessment, and psychiatric disposition and referrals.
Cardiac Care
Emergency service patients with chest pain and cardiac issues are immediately screened, evaluated, and treated with modern diagnostic and monitoring equipment by emergency care physicians and specialized cardiology staff. These professionals coordinate with area interventional cardiac specialists to initiate treatment and transport for more severe cases.
LIFE STAR
The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and Hungerford Emergency and Medical Care in Winsted utilize Hartford Hospital’s LIFE STAR helicopter air medical transport service for emergency services when it is necessary to transfer a patient to a coordinating facility.
LIFE STAR is available to emergency and critical care patients within a 150-mile area surrounding Hartford, and transports approximately 1,400 patients each year.
